I think this book is great! I feel it should have a different name. This is not primarily a conspiracy book but rather a scientific compilation of facts about ecology and archeology involving the horse in the west. This book is a must read for anyone concerned about the future of government owned lands of the west as well as the welfare of wild horses and burros.
Wow, great book, the author included many items that shows there is and always have been a conspiracy by the extractive industries (livestock, mining etc) to rid out west of a native animal. He gives one lots to think about and encourages further research. Wild Horses are truly one of the US's most Native of animals.
Dr. Downer is a highly educated researcher and scientist, gifted writer and solutionary.. This book and the booklet update has taught me so much about the American wild horses and burros, their habits and the huge benefits they are to the environment. Very detailed biology facts and a really good read. I recommend highly if you love nature and science, and of course, horses.
This is clearly one of the most well researched and documented books I've ever read. Even if you're not a horse loving fan, the details on this book present an insightful look at the workings of agencies who are charged with the task of our land and resource management and the result is a real eye-opener! I appreciate author Craig C. Downer's impressive work and have come away with a significantly better understanding of what is at stake here not only with our nation's wild horses, but wildlife, our public rangelands, and our natural resources.
